Hanging out on the Couch + Creep Mouse--September 28

And now, for the first time, video!  We made an attempt to record Creep Mouse, which is Grammy's thing.  Now it's Hazel's thing.  She used to smile at the end of Creep Mouse, but now she smiles the most at the beginning.

Breakfast--September 28

Nothing goes with breakfast quite like Plip Plop Pond.

Nothing, that is, except Sophie the Giraffe.  Beef may be for dinner, but Sophie is for breakfast.

Eventually, everything ends up on the floor.  By then, hopefully,  the oatmeal is all gone and we can move on to something else.

How to Make a 5-Month Old Look Really Small--September 26

Certain parents decided that Hazel needed to experience riding on her dad's shoulders.  Or rather, one parent, who shall remain unnamed, surprised the other one by sneaking up behind him and placing the baby on his shoulders.  And then took pictures.

Hazel seemed to approve. Mostly.

Hazel Sits, Mostly On Her Own--September 25

Hazel and the Whoozit.  The Whoozit is on loan from Aunt Nellie.  It was one of Nellie's first toys, and Hazel is starting to enjoy it more now that she can sit up some and get a better look at it.  She particularly enjoys it when someone else squeaks the nose for her.

Note the strategically placed throw pillow.  Just in case a small person happened to lurch backwards awkwardly.

Hazel  is learning to be affectionate with the dog.  Clearly Emma enjoys it, or she wouldn't sit so close!  The only lurching that happened ended up being quite purposeful.

Hazel and her Papa (and her Dog)-- September 23

We went to Afton State Park in search of fall leaves.  It was a beautiful day, and we found a new trail that we had mostly to ourselves.

Note how dignified Emma is in spite of the fact that she is carrying one of Hazel's toys in her collar.  Flipper appreciated the ride, although he got a little hairy by the time we got back to the car.

Como Zoo (Again)--September 21

We decided to go to the zoo at the last minute on a Friday.  It was perfect, the crowds were minimal and the weather was just cool enough to be comfortable.

This bear, and a few friends, are still "visiting" from Minot, North Dakota, where the zoo was flooded last year.

We are particularly fond of the large cats.

There are wolves at the Como Zoo now, we saw two of them.  One of them was white, and expressed an unnerving level interest when a toddler tripped and began to cry.

Trying on the Marshmallow Bear Suit--September 21

It's getting colder, so we're just starting to get out the cold weather gear.

After the Evening Walk--September 20

Puppy Love--September 19

Hazel has a new fascination with Emma.  She likes to pet the dog, and play with her toes.  For the most part, Emma just lays there and enjoys the attention.

Hazel has discovered that Emma's ears are very soft, and she likes to touch them. Emma is fairly cooperative, but sometimes she isn't all that enthusiastic about the pulling.

Sitting is the next frontier.  We are working on it, and getting better!

A Busy Day-- September 17

Hazel did laundry in the morning, and organized her books.

She helped her dad eat his lunch.

She helped her mama with her homework.

Hazel finished up with a phone call to Nana and Grandad.

More Living Room Adventures--September 13

Hazel started out on her mat, again, but did not stay long.

She lost socks right and left.

She ate a car.

She moved on from the car when Emma plopped down behind her.

After one too many dog kisses, she thought better of that plan.

A few short minutes of wriggling and rolling got her right back where she started.
